Mali, officially the Republic of Mali, is a landlocked country in West Africa. Mali is the eighth-largest country in Africa, with an area of just over 1,240,000 square kilometres. The population of Mali is 19.1 million.
Malian cuisine is characterized by its rich flavors and diverse ingredients, reflecting the country's cultural heritage and agricultural abundance. Staple foods include millet, rice, sorghum, and corn, often served with a variety of sauces made from peanuts, tomatoes, or okra. Meat such as chicken, beef, and lamb is commonly used, along with fish from the Niger River. Popular dishes include "jollof rice," "maafe" (a peanut stew), and "fufu" (a dough-like food made from boiled and pounded starchy vegetables). Spices and herbs like ginger, garlic, and chili peppers add depth to the dishes, while tea is a favored beverage, often enjoyed in a social setting.
