US citizens must have a passport and visa to enter Liberia. Visas must be obtained in advance. The U.S. Embassy does not issue visas. The Republic of Liberia has outsourced its visa application services to a private company, Liberian Visa Services. The application can be completed online, and the visa can be picked up at the airport upon arrival. It is also recommended to have a World Health Organization (WHO) card with a yellow fever vaccination.
Liberia is a country on the West African coast. It is bordered by Sierra Leone to its northwest, Guinea to its north, Ivory Coast to its east, and the Atlantic Ocean to its south-southwest.
Liberian cuisine is characterized by its rich and diverse flavors, heavily influenced by the country's indigenous tribes and its history of trade and colonization. Staple ingredients include rice, cassava, and plantains, often accompanied by a variety of stews and soups. Palm oil is a common cooking medium, imparting a distinct taste to many dishes. Popular dishes include jollof rice, a spicy and savory rice dish, and fufu, a starchy side made from pounded cassava or plantains. Liberian cuisine also features a variety of meats, such as chicken, beef, and fish, often seasoned with hot peppers and other spices. The use of fresh, local ingredients and traditional cooking methods results in hearty and flavorful meals that reflect the country's cultural heritage.
