Tom Yum Goong is a popular Thai soup known for its distinct hot and sour flavors, with fragrant spices and herbs generously used in the broth. The soup is also made fragrant with generous amounts of lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, galangal, and chilies. It is traditionally made with shrimp (goong), but may also contain other types of seafood, mushrooms, or even chicken. The soup is often topped with fresh coriander leaves for an extra burst of flavor.
Recipe
Ingredients:
2 cups of water
4 kaffir lime leaves
1 stalk of lemongrass
3 slices of galangal
1/2 a red onion
2 bird's eye chillies
200g of prawns
200g of mushrooms
2 tomatoes
2 tablespoons of fish sauce
1 teaspoon of sugar
Juice of 2 limes
Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions:
In a pot, bring the water to a boil.
Add the kaffir lime leaves, lemongrass, galangal, red onion, and bird's eye chillies to the pot. Let it simmer for about 15 minutes.
Add the prawns, mushrooms, and tomatoes to the pot. Let it cook for another 10 minutes.
Stir in the fish sauce and sugar.
Turn off the heat and add the lime juice. Stir well.
Serve the soup hot, garnished with fresh coriander leaves.
