Next Dish: Codfish Breakfast

Pizza is a popular dish of Italian origin, consisting of a usually round, flattened base of leavened wheat-based dough topped with tomatoes, cheese, and various other ingredients such as anchovies, mushrooms, onions, olives, pineapple, meat, etc., baked at a high temperature, traditionally in a wood-fired oven. The modern pizza was invented in Naples, Italy, and the dish and its variants have since become popular and common in many areas of the world. In 2009, upon Italy's request, Neapolitan pizza was registered with the European Union as a Traditional Speciality Guaranteed dish. Pizza is one of the most popular foods in the world and a common fast food item in Europe and North America.

Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 pizza dough

  • 1 cup pizza sauce

  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

  • 1/2 cup sliced pepperoni

  • 1/2 cup sliced bell peppers

  • 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms

  • 1/2 cup sliced black olives

  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano

  • 1/2 teaspoon basil

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven while it preheats.

  2. Roll out your pizza dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness. If you're using a pizza stone, transfer the rolled dough onto a piece of parchment paper.

  3. Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the surface of the dough, leaving a small border for the crust.

  4. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the sauce.

  5. Arrange the pepperoni, bell peppers, mushrooms, and black olives over the cheese.

  6. Sprinkle the oregano, basil, and garlic powder over the toppings.

  7. Carefully transfer the pizza (and parchment paper if using a pizza stone) onto a baking sheet or heated pizza stone.

  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.

  9. Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
