Next Dish: Shepherd’s Pie
A Pastie Supper is a traditional dish originating from Northern Ireland. The meal consists of a pastie (a round, breaded, deep-fried pie filled with pork, onions, and potato) served alongside chips, or French fries. This dish is a staple in local chip shops and is often enjoyed as a takeaway meal. The pastie in a Pastie Supper is distinctly different from the Cornish pasty, as it is typically spicier and the ingredients are minced, not diced.
Recipe
Ingredients:
1 lb ground beef
1 small onion, chopped
1 small potato, diced
1 carrot, diced
1/2 cup frozen peas
1/2 cup beef broth
Salt and pepper to taste
2 sheets of puff pastry
1 egg, beaten
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until no longer pink. Drain the excess fat.
Add the onion, potato, carrot, and peas to the skillet. Cook until the vegetables are tender.
Stir in the beef broth and season with salt and pepper. Let the mixture simmer until the broth has reduced.
Roll out the puff pastry and cut into 4 equal squares.
Spoon the beef and vegetable mixture onto one half of each square, leaving a small border around the edges.
Fold the other half of the pastry over the filling and press the edges together to seal. Make small slits in the top of each pastie.
Brush the pasties with the beaten egg.
Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the pasties are golden brown.
