hamburger
Next Dish: Lechón Asado
A hamburger is a sandwich consisting of one or more cooked patties of ground meat, usually beef, placed inside a sliced bread roll or bun. The patty may be pan fried, grilled, smoked or flame broiled. Hamburgers are often served with cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, bacon, or chiles; condiments such as ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard, relish, or a "special sauce", often a variant of Thousand Island dressing; and are frequently placed on sesame seed buns. The term "burger" can also be applied to the meat patty on its own, especially in the UK where the term "patty" is rarely used.
Recipe
Ingredients:
1 lb ground beef
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
4 hamburger buns
4 slices of cheese (optional)
Lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles (optional)
Ketchup, mustard, mayo (optional)
Instructions:
Preheat a grill or skillet on medium-high heat.
In a bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and pepper. Mix until the seasonings are evenly distributed.
Divide the beef mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a patty about 1/2 inch thick.
Place the patties on the grill or skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until the desired doneness is reached.
If using cheese, place a slice on each patty during the last minute of cooking to allow it to melt.
While the burgers are cooking, split the buns and toast them lightly on the grill or in a toaster.
Assemble the burgers by placing a cooked patty on the bottom half of each bun. Top with desired toppings and condiments, then cover with the top half of the bun. Serve immediately.
