Next Dish: Carne Asada
Gibanica is a traditional pastry dish popular in the Balkans, especially Serbia. It is made by layering filo pastry with various ingredients, most commonly cheese, but also spinach, meat, or potatoes. The dish is typically served cut into squares and can be enjoyed hot or cold. It is often consumed at traditional events and holidays.
Recipe
Ingredients:
1 pack of Phyllo dough
4 Eggs
1 cup Oil
1 cup Sparkling mineral water
1 cup Feta cheese
1 cup Cottage cheese
1 cup Cream cheese
1 cup Sour cream
1 cup Greek yogurt
Salt to taste
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a baking dish.
In a large bowl, beat the eggs. Add salt, oil, and sparkling water. Mix well.
Add the feta cheese, cottage cheese, cream cheese, sour cream, and Greek yogurt into the egg mixture. Stir until all ingredients are well combined.
Lay two sheets of phyllo dough in the baking dish. Spread a thin layer of the cheese mixture on top. Repeat this step until all the phyllo and cheese mixture is used, making sure to end with a layer of phyllo on top.
Bake in the preheated oven for about 40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the filling is set.
Allow the Gibanica to cool slightly before cutting into squares and serving.
