casado

Next Dish: Tapai

Casado is a traditional Costa Rican meal. The dish typically consists of rice, black beans, plantains, salad, a tortilla, and a protein such as chicken, beef, pork, or fish. Its name, which translates to "married man", is said to have originated from the idea that the meal appears as though it's enough food to satisfy a hardworking "husband". Casado is widely served in local restaurants, known as "sodas", across Costa Rica.
