bulgogi
Next Dish: Tibs
Bulgogi is a popular Korean dish that typically consists of marinated slices of beef, usually ribeye, cooked on a grill or stove-top griddle. The meat is traditionally marinated in a mixture of soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, garlic, and pepper. It is often enjoyed wrapped in lettuce or perilla leaves, along with a smear of ssamjang (a spicy paste), and can be accompanied by various side dishes. The term "bulgogi" literally means "fire meat" in Korean, reflecting its cooking method.
Recipe
Ingredients:
1 pound of beef sirloin
5 tablespoons of soy sauce
2.5 tablespoons of sugar
1/4 cup of chopped green onion
2 tablespoons of minced garlic
2 tablespoons of sesame oil
1/2 teaspoon of ground black pepper
2 tablespoons of toasted sesame seeds
1/2 large onion, sliced
1 carrot, thinly sliced
Instructions:
Slice the beef into thin strips. You can freeze the beef for about 1 hour before slicing to make this easier.
In a bowl, combine soy sauce, sugar, chopped green onion, minced garlic, sesame oil, black pepper, and toasted sesame seeds. Mix well.
Add the sliced beef, onion, and carrot to the marinade and toss to coat evenly. Let it marinate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best results.
Heat a skillet or grill pan over medium high heat. Add the beef and cook until it is cooked through and slightly caramelized, about 5-7 minutes.
Serve the bulgogi with rice and your favorite sides. Enjoy!
