brik
Next Dish: Yalanji
Brik is a traditional Tunisian dish, typically consisting of a thin pastry around a filling, commonly deep fried. The filling usually includes whole egg, tuna, harissa, and sometimes capers and cheese. Brik is often served during Ramadan and can be eaten as an appetizer or a snack. Its name comes from the Turkish word 'börek', which refers to a family of baked or fried filled pastries.
Recipe
Ingredients:
1 sheet of brick dough or phyllo dough
1 egg
1 small can of tuna
1 tablespoon of capers
1 tablespoon of chopped parsley
1 tablespoon of chopped onion
Salt and pepper to taste
Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions:
In a bowl, mix together the tuna, capers, parsley, onion, salt, and pepper.
Take the sheet of dough and place it on a flat surface. Put the tuna mixture in the center of the dough.
Make a well in the center of the tuna mixture and crack the egg into it.
Fold the dough over the filling to form a triangle. Make sure all the edges are sealed.
Heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
Carefully place the brik in the hot oil and fry until golden brown on both sides. This should take about 3 minutes on each side.
Remove the brik from the oil with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Serve hot.
