Next Dish: Tinola
Baursaki is a traditional Kazakh dish, often served as a dessert or snack. It consists of deep-fried dough, typically shaped into balls or triangles. The dough is usually made from basic ingredients such as flour, water, sugar, and yeast. Baursaki is commonly served with tea and can be flavored with honey or powdered sugar.
Recipe
Ingredients:
500g all-purpose flour
2 tsp instant yeast
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp sugar
250ml warm milk
50g butter
1 egg
1 litre vegetable oil for frying
Instructions:
In a large bowl, combine the flour, yeast, salt, and sugar.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the warm milk, melted butter, and egg.
Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry, stirring until a dough forms.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
After the dough has risen, divide it into small pieces and shape each into a ball.
In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
Fry the dough balls in the hot oil until they are golden brown on all sides.
Remove the baursaki from the oil with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Serve the baursaki warm. They can be enjoyed as is, or with honey, jam, or other sweet or savory spreads.
