bannock
Next Dish: Guláš
Bannock is a variety of flat quick bread or any large, round article baked or cooked from grain. A staple food of many indigenous peoples in North America, it is traditionally made from a variety of grains and was prepared by mixing water and grain flour, then baking it on hot stones or in ashes. Modern recipes often use baking powder or soda for leavening and are often pan-fried or baked in an oven. The dish is quite versatile and can be adapted to include various ingredients for different flavors.
Recipe
Ingredients:
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons baking powder
1/4 cup butter, melted
1 1/2 cups water
Instructions:
In a large bowl, mix together the flour, salt, and baking powder.
Pour in the melted butter and water, then mix until a dough starts to form.
Once the dough is formed, knead it on a floured surface until it becomes smooth.
Shape the dough into a flat circle, about 1 inch thick.
Heat a large pan over medium heat, and add the dough to the pan.
Cook the dough for about 15 minutes on each side, or until it's golden brown and cooked through.
Let the bannock cool for a few minutes before cutting into it. Serve warm.
