The preparation and consumption of Banitsa is associated with various Bulgarian customs and traditions, including New Year's celebrations.

Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 package of phyllo dough

  • 4 eggs

  • 1 cup of yogurt

  • 1 cup of feta cheese

  • 1/2 cup of butter, melted

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

  2. Beat the eggs in a bowl. Add the yogurt and feta cheese to the eggs and mix well.

  4. Spread a thin layer of the egg and cheese mixture over the top sheet of phyllo dough.

  5. Roll the sheets up tightly to form a log. Repeat this process with the remaining phyllo sheets and filling.

  6. Arrange the rolls in a circular pattern in a greased baking dish.

  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.

  8. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your homemade Bulgarian Banitsa!
