Next Dish: Nyekoe
Alloco is a popular street food dish commonly consumed in Côte d'Ivoire, West Africa. It is made from ripe plantains which are sliced and deep-fried in palm oil or vegetable oil, often served with a side of chili pepper and onions. The dish is also widespread in other West African countries where it is known by different names such as Dodo in Nigeria and Kelewele in Ghana. The snack is favored for its sweet, spicy, and crispy taste.
Recipe
Ingredients:
4 ripe plantains
Salt to taste
1 onion
2 tomatoes
1 bell pepper
2 cloves garlic
1 scotch bonnet pepper
Oil for frying
Instructions:
Peel the plantains and slice them into diagonal pieces.
Sprinkle the plantain slices with salt to taste.
Heat the oil in a frying pan.
Fry the plantain slices until they turn golden brown.
Remove the plantain slices from the oil and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
Chop the onion, tomatoes, bell pepper, garlic, and scotch bonnet pepper.
In a separate pan, sauté the chopped vegetables until they are soft and fragrant.
Serve the fried plantain slices with the sautéed vegetables on top.
