Sudan, officially known as the Republic of the Sudan, is a country in Northeast Africa. It is bordered by Egypt to the north, Libya to the northwest, Chad to the west, the Central African Republic to the southwest, South Sudan to the south, Ethiopia to the southeast, Eritrea to the east, and the Red Sea to the northeast.
Sudanese cuisine is a rich blend of African, Arab, and Mediterranean influences, reflecting the country's diverse cultural heritage. Staple foods include sorghum, millet, and wheat, often used to make kisra, a type of flatbread. Ful medames, a dish made from fava beans, is a popular breakfast choice, while asida, a porridge-like dish, is commonly served with stews. Spices such as cumin, coriander, and cardamom are frequently used to enhance flavors. Meat, particularly lamb and chicken, is often grilled or stewed, and dishes are typically accompanied by fresh vegetables and salads. Tea and coffee are important beverages, often flavored with spices like cinnamon and ginger.
