Songpan, a county in Sichuan, China, was founded during the Tang Dynasty (618-907). It served as a military outpost and trading hub on the Silk Road. The area experienced various rulers, from the Mongols in the 13th century to the Qing Dynasty in the 17th century. Songpan was devastated by a 7.6 magnitude earthquake in 1976 but has since recovered. Today, it's known for its preserved ancient city and as a gateway to scenic areas like Huanglong and Jiuzhaigou.
